Inhaling the scent of a water lily at the age of eight at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens was, I believe, the first time I experienced intoxication. I was in the Japanese exhibit and I remember getting down on my knees, bending over a water pond and leaning toward a bright blue, purple tinged flower and breathing in. The combined beauty and exotic fragrance imprinted in my mind forever.
And so began my love affair with the Japanese culture, which led me to the phrase, ‘Kohan ni Shitagau.’ It literally means to follow the request.
At age 33, I had a dream…and so began my art career.
Kohan ni Shitagau…
"I have never once been moved by art in the form of painting and often felt as if I were missing out on something, a language others spoke but I did not understand, but your work really touches something inside me. I feel as though I want to climb inside it and discover it from another dimension. Thank you so much for putting a piece of your soul into this"
"The works in this book capture a moment in our collective history to tell the story of our time… This book shows some small insight into those special moments…centered around the theme of "Radical Breakthroughs"."
"Stephen’s artistic vision, versatility, talent and skill, along with his intuitive nature, make him an irreplaceable asset in the creative process. His custom, original works of art are created to equally fit the character and individual personalities of my clients homes. I think art should feed your soul and not just match your decor. Stephen’s work provides that essential element. I am grateful to have him as a resource to bring heart and beauty into my client’s homes."
"It is so profound for us to watch a cold white box turn into something so lovely and exciting.” Your art work in the stairway is incredible. My clients are quite taken with you as an artist and a person."
